Upper Backpain Center

Pain in the upper is less common than lower back or neck pain but when pain in the upper part of the spine occurs it can make the neck and shoulders stiff and uncomfortable, limiting movement.

Causes –

Upper back pain is usually caused due to soft tissue injuries, such as sprains or strains, muscle tension caused by poor posture, or looking downward for long time periods

An episode of upper back pain can be triggered by different movements and activities, including:

  • Improperly lifting something heavy
  • Poor Muscle tone
  • Whiplash Injury
  • Practicing poor posture
  • Sports injury
  • Being overweight

Poor posture is one of the leading causes of upper back pain. You may not feel any ill-effects after sitting with poor posture or when you are looking downward for long time periods (eg, texting, cell phone use) for a few hours, but over time the stress that poor posture places on your spine can lead to anatomical changes in your spine. This in turn can provoke back pain through the constriction of your blood vessels and nerves. It’s easy to fall into bad habits of not sitting properly, especially when you’re at your seat for so many hours a day.
